Setting the trap
A classic bit from "Elephant in the Room" is a great example of a joke where the comedian plays dumb in order to fool the crowd/set up a punchline.
Patrice O’Neal’s Elephant in the Room has one of the greatest trap jokes ever. That’s what I call a bit where the comic pretends not to know something in order to pull the ol’ switcheroo on ‘em.
